A Potted History M24 Arts started life in 1989 as Rochdale Resource Centre and then as Pearls; their raison d'etre being to support Play, Arts and Education in the North West. Since Pearls closed its doors, it has been reincarnated in the form of M24 Arts and as such, we have remained committed to supporting Arts and Crafts in the communities around Greater Manchester, from our new premises in Middleton. We are now a family owned business ; and we the directors, Peter and Tina Wright and Jacqueline Dike, opened our M24 Arts, Middleton doors to the public in June 2012, and haven’t looked back. We have varied backgrounds and expertise, but between us we have specialisms in youth work, consultancy and primary and secondary education. Added Extra !
Our new home has a chequered history, Canky’s Ginnel runs up the side of the shop and most people in this area know about the sinister activities which occurred there in the 1800’s. We’ve also been told by customers that there was once a mill on this site, then sometime in the early 1900’s it became Cowley and Richardson’s, lemonade, wine and spirit merchants. Since then, we think it’s been the home of the Co-op, a light fitting manufacturer and a motorcar spares shop; we still get the odd person wandering in, looking for head gasket sealer! |
